My Insurance Adjuster Won’t Return My Calls
Welcome to my world! As a personal injury attorney, I’m used to being ignored by adjusters and defense lawyers (although they tend to respond once I file a lawsuit). In any event, it can be infuriating to deal with a claims handler who is simply unresponsive to multiple calls and emails.
So what do you do? There are a few options. Sometimes, you can successfully obtain the contact information of the claim handler’s supervisor. Complaining to a supervisor can often get you a response—supervisors have their own problems to deal with and don’t want to deal with their subordinates’ problems, so they’ll tell the handler to call you back. Other times, it can be helpful to hire an attorney and have him/her reach out to an adjuster. Getting a letter from a lawyer will usually get the adjuster’s attention. Of course, that is a much more in-depth process, and choosing the right lawyer can be nerve-racking in and of itself. Ultimately, whether you are doing it yourself or doing it through the services of a lawyer, documenting each and every interaction with your adjuster and each failed attempt at communication is the best thing you can do. These documented interactions can be crucial if your claim ever ends up in court.
